Discover a bright future, whatever obstacles life has put in your way – people in Sheffield can find their way back into employment with Working Win provided by Shaw Trust

Finding and keeping a job can be difficult in the current climate: Add a physical or mental health condition into the mix, and it can seem an impossible goal.

But Working Win, delivered by Shaw Trust, is a free service that helps you find a meaningful job, or to stay in your current role.

And it’s available for people just like you.

Case study

DL was an out of work participant who was looking for an administrative role.

He was struggling with his mental health and wellbeing.

Together, DL and his Employment Specialist Clare found a role in a university which he wanted to apply for.

Clare supported DL through the application and interview and with preparing for starting work. They looked at his routine, how he was going to get ready for his first day at work, and how he could best manage his mental health in this new environment.

DL has been open with his new employer about his mental health and they have been supportive of how he manages his wellbeing.

DL said: “I came into contact with Working Win through my volunteering role at St Mary’s Church. I was fortunate to click straight away with my Employment Coach, Clare, who immediately offered a friendly and approachable attitude towards me. Clare took the time to listen to my goals and concerns about achieving them.

“Through successive meetings both Clare and I identified job roles that I would be interested in and Clare offered support in breaking down the application process and set me achievable timescales to complete the necessary steps.

“I was fortunate to obtain an interview for my preferred job role and once again Clare was there to offer support and guidance in preparing me for the interview process. I was successful in obtaining my desired job role and the psychological support offered by Clare was second to none.”

And he said that additional help was a major advantage, not only in finding work, but settling into it.

He added: “Having been out of employment for the past seven years, it was a significant adjustment in settling into a full-time position. Clare went above and beyond to keep me calm and collected and helped me achieve stability in my job role. I now stand poised to pass my probationary period and this is down in a big part to Working Win!”
