Foster Carers needed in Yorkshire: You only get one childhood, make theirs amazing with Team Fostering
When you think back to your childhood, what are the memories which stick in your mind? Trips to the beach? Riding a bike? Playing out with friends?
For some children, these memories haven’t been made yet. But thanks to Team Fostering and our wonderful foster carers it’s something we’re determined to change so that every young person gets the childhood they deserve.
For children, not profit
Team Fostering is an independent, not-for-profit fostering agency. Which means any surplus money we have goes directly back into supporting our young people. From providing them with access to memorial funds so they can pay for things like trips or driving lessons to one-to-one educational or emotional support.
But one of the things we’re most proud of is our activities programme. Throughout the year children and carers can come along to a massive range of activities organised by Team Fostering.
From days out to the seaside and trips to theme parks to Christmas parties and caravan holidays, we’ve done it all. Not only do they build amazing memories for our families but we see our young people gaining confidence, trying new things, making friends and working as a team.
Plus it gives our foster carers a chance to build a support network, getting to know other carers and sharing stories.
Conquering fears, making memories
One of our favourite events of 2024 was a visit to an Aqua Park during the summer holidays, followed by a team picnic with young people, carers and staff.
I was teamed up with a fantastic young person. He was so nervous about getting into the water. And to be fair so was I.
Despite saying he wasn’t sure if he wanted to do it, but desperately wanting to try, the young person took my hand and jumped in.
One of the inflatables was really high. You climbed up the triangle and then jumped off the top. For a little person it’s quite a big thing.
After conquering his fear to climb to the top, the young person tried to build up the courage to jump.
20 minutes later he leapt off the inflatable and shouted ‘I believe I can fly’ before landing in the water.
I was so proud of him. But what I was also proud of was he was surrounded by all our other children and young people saying ‘it’s ok, take your time, you can do it’.
They were so kind and so supportive. They have to navigate a world which isn’t always kind to them but they do it with so much enthusiasm.
I think it’s one of those days that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
