Make the most of Sheffield with top 10 recommended places to visit and all are accessible by bus with fares of £3 or less.
With spring in the air we can all feel the urge to be out and about again, but we all know the Yorkshire weather isn’t always reliable for the great outdoors or lazy afternoons in the garden.
But that’s no problem in a city like ours, there are plenty of things to do and places to visit with something to interest all the family. We asked bus company Stagecoach to give us their top 10 tips for making the most of Sheffield by bus and here are their suggestions.


1. Valley Centertainment
Find family entertainment all under one roof at Valley Centertainment. Home to film, food and fun you can make a date for the cinema at the 20-screen Cineworld, grab a bite to eat with everything from pizzas and burgers to sweets and ice creams of every colour or enjoy some fun with family or friends at Laser Quest or Paradise Island Adventure Golf.
The little monkeys in your life will love Monkey Business and there’s always plenty of events, special offers and more to give you something fresh to enjoy each time you visit.
2. Weston Park Museum
Discover the history of your city at Weston Park Museum. Ancient history is explored through archaeological treasures where you can discover more about what lies beneath your feet or learn about ancient Egypt.
Kids will love meeting zoological wonders like Spike the Woolly Rhino and Snowy the Polar Bear. The Picturing Sheffield gallery has themed highlights from the city’s art collection. The ever-changing exhibits mean there’s always something fresh to see. Entry is free and there’s a café too.


3. National Video Game Musuem
Test your skills at the National Video Game Museum. It’s time to get interactive and play the arcades. Here you could relive your glory days on Space Invaders and other blasts from the past. There are over 100 games to play here from the 1970s to the 2010s.
More than that though you’ll learn about their history, who made them, and even why they are made. What makes the culturally important? This unique museum will delight young and old alike.
4. Rock up Meadowhall
There’s no need to wait for a fair weather day to go climbing at Rock up Meadowhall. Hone your skills on the thrilling climbing walls, with walls suitable for all ages and abilities.
From novice to expert it offers mountains of fun for everyone! Try the towering walls over 8m in height which boast over 70 challenges to your abilities. No two climb need be the same. And of course you can get tuition and even let the little ones loose on the soft play area.


5. National Emergency Services Museum
Today’s modern emergency services are a far cry from what we had back in their infancy. The National Emergency Services Museum boasts three floors of displays and stories which take you on an immersive journey through time.
With plenty of hands-on experiences you can find out more about the heroes of the past and see up close vintage police cars, life-saving medical equipment and objects from the firefighting archives. With plenty of events and play opportunities this museum is great for all ages.
6. Sheffield Kelham Island Museum
Discover about life and work during the Industrial Revolution at Kelham Island Musuem and find out more of the Women of Steel and how industry forged our modern city.
Another free museum open to all the family (suggested donations welcome) you can really step back in time as you stroll along the cobbles of Little Mesters Street, and find out about the ordinary lives of workers as well as the work they did.
7. Builders brew café
This is a must for Lego-lovers. The Builders Brew Café offers the chance to enjoy refreshments AND indulge your passion for building with Lego. You simply book your table, choose a Lego set or go freeform, order your food and drink and then let your skills and imagination get to work!
8. Hillsborough Leisure Centre
Get active at the Hillsborough Leisure Centre. Alongside two swimming pools – which offer water slides, a pirate ship and wave machines as well as traditional lane swimming and lessons – there is also a six-court sports hall where you can take part in a range of sports and a large, well-equipped gym, two group exercise studios and a group cycling studio.
And with plenty of changing rooms and two cafes you can relax after all your hard work too.


9. Ponds Forge
The sporty types will be well suited to what’s on offer here at Ponds Forge too, which lays claim to be one of the premier sports and leisure centres in the country. Serious swimmers will love the 50m competition-standard pool, but there’s also a 25m leisure pool and diving pit. The gym boasts 140 stations and the very latest equipment and there is a 10-court sports hall.
Love a fitness class? You’ll be spoiled for choice here.
10. Airhaus
Airhaus is Sheffield’s inflatable play park. There is no end of fun to be had bounding around this incredible inflatable adventure playground. There’s space for toddlers and for the grown ups to test their skills with battle games, speed runs and more. Fancy the 8m slide? Who wouldn’t! Jump across the giant balls – who can be the quickest? Or try to be the best in the Haus on the Ninja run.
Get bus-y
You can never be stuck for something to see or do with so much on the doorstep – and all of these are accessible by bus for fares of £3 or less.
