Andrew Morton, aged 22, of Coleridge Road, Eastwood, Rotherham, admitted attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, and admitted two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, according to a Sheffield Crown Court hearing.

Nicola Quinney, prosecuting, told the hearing on January 25 Morton came to light when officers used two undercover profiles on a social media platform as part of a West Midlands Police investigation into online sexual offending.

Ms Quinney said: “The two profiles, Natalie and Millie, were being operated by undercover police officers as 12-year-old girls.”

Morton discussed masturbating and sexual intercourse with “Natalie”, according to Ms Quinney, and he discussed oral sex and masturbating with “Millie”.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions, was arrested after police visited his home in May, 2019.

Ian Goldsack, defending, said: “He does live an isolated existence and the internet is one of the ways he has access with the outside world.”

Judge Sarah Wright, who recognised Morton has difficulties, sentenced him to a two-year community order with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and placed him on a 40-day accredited programme for sex offenders.

She made Morton subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years and warned if he commits further offences or breaches the orders he faces prison.
