Sheffield Crown Court heard on January 25 how Liam Sanderson, aged 29, of Shawsfield Road, near Broom, Rotherham, was caught with 34 category A images, 68 category B images and 2,676 category C images on two electronic devices.

Judge David Dixon told Sanderson: “These offences are serious. They involved people carrying out horrendous acts of abuse with young children.

“And it seems a lot of the images you were looking at were particularly young children.”

Nicola Quinney, prosecuting, said a search warrant was executed by police at Sanderson’s home in February, 2019, and the images were found on two electronic devices.

Ms Quinney said the majority of the images were movies involving youngsters aged between five and 14-years-old which had been created between March, 2014, and January, 2019.

Sanderson admitted that he had downloaded the images, according to Miss Quinney, and he had felt remorseful afterwards and had attended counselling.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children relating to category A, B and C images, with category A being the most serious.

Aqsa Hussain, defending, said Sanderson had started looking at pornography when he was 12-years-old and became addicted and he became desensitised.

Ms Hussain added that Sanderson was suspended from his job as a tram driver after his offending came to light and he felt he had no choice but to resign.

Sanderson is remorseful and disgusted with his actions, according to Ms Hussain, and he has suffered with mental health issues and after his offending was publicised his reputation has been ruined.

Judge Dixon sentenced Sanderson to 16 months of custody suspended for two years with a 30-day sex-offender programme and a 20-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.

Sanderson was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years.

Judge Dixon warned Sanderson if he breaches his suspended sentence order he could face going to prison.

He told him: “Any breach and it’s the back door rather than the front door.”
