Sheffield woman films moment dog disappears in sea foam

Eddy the terrier was on a walk with his owner Jane Hardy, who is originally from Sheffield but now lives in Northumberland, when he ran off to look for his ball before enjoying a lovely ‘bubble bath’.

The adventurous Jack Russell was suddenly lost after plunging into the thick sea foam which had built up during the wintry conditions on the beach at Seaton Point.

Jane, who captured the cute footage on Sunday, February 7, said she could only see his ‘little head bobbing’ through the foam.

“We go there on a walk every day, it’s his regular haunt,” said the 54-year-old mum-of-four, who lives minutes from the beach.

“He loves it at the beach - when he saw the foam he was like what is this and just went diving in. He just loves it.

“It’s the first time he’s seen it this year, it doesn’t happen very often. It’s like kids with snow, he was just very excited.

“He’s a nutter who loves the beach. He runs to every dog, he’s so friendly.

“It’s so funny how he was just bouncing around, he kept popping up out of the foam. The foam was taller than him. He’s only got short legs.”

Sea foam is created when the ocean is disturbed by wind and waves.

Tiny particles of fats, algae, and bits of coral and other substances in the water are churned up, creating a thick foam, much to Eddy’s delight.

Jane goes on daily walks along the Northumberland coast with her beloved six-year-old Jack Russell who she says ‘keeps me fit’.

“He loves being out and about. He keeps me fit. I’m fortunate I live less than five miles from the beach so we can go and go for runs,” she said.

“He’s just a friendly dog, we love him. We take him out for exercise.

“Eddy just loves life. His tail never stops wagging. He never gets tired, he always wants to play with the ball."
