Airship’s Toggle platform lets companies sell giftcards for meals, merchandise and at-home experiences.

It is used by 149 firms, some 10 in Sheffield, including South Street Kitchen, Rafters, Beer House, Silversmiths and Fat Hippo.

Sales in 2020 were £4.7m.

December sales peaked at £82,000 on Christmas Eve, with more than £25,000 traded on Christmas Day itself.

With the third national lockdown now underway, pubs will be using Toggle to make money in the run up to Valentine’s Day, according to Airship boss Dan Brookman.

The romantic event was 12 per cent of Toggle sales in 2020.

He added: “We quadrupled the number of operators on Toggle over the last 12 months. There were some noticeable winners and what we recognise is that consumers are still trusting the brands they love.

“Retail and experiences will continue to drive up revenue growth. We now have licensed distribution for operators who are looking to package and sell alcohol.

“Gifting in hospitality is still very early in its evolution. For operators to maximise the opportunity, it must become a revenue channel that’s part of the overall strategy. Gift cards provide an invaluable route to new customers.”

Toggle is free for the first £1,000 worth of sales and operators can be up-and-running within a few hours.

Operators using it include: YO! Sushi, Revolution Bars, Franco Manca, Leon, Gusto, Tonkotsu, JW Lees, Yummy Pubs, Boston Tea Party, Brewhouse & Kitchen, Côte, Turtle Bay, Rudy’s, San Carlo, Bob Bob Ricard, Park Chinois, Revolución de Cuba, Hickory’s Smokehouse, Ego Restaurants and Rosa's Thai Café.
