Our Cow Molly has been making milk at the farm in Dungworth since 1947 and is still doing many things the traditional way, delivering milk in glass bottles and churning out delicious ice cream.

But it’s not afraid to move with the times, as viewers of BBC One show Countryfile learned yesterday, Sunday, February 1.

They were introduced to one of its latest innovations – a talking vending machine which has been keeping Sheffield safely stocked with fresh produce from numerous local suppliers during the pandemic.

The cashless machine, filled with milk, bacon, eggs and more, even welcomes shoppers using Sheffield lingo.

“Now then, please sanitise your hands before pressing my buttons. It’s on your left. Thanks love,” it tells them.

Owner Eddie Andrew explained how the traditional farm, started by his grandfather Hector, processes and bottles milk on site, before delivering it to homes whatever the weather.

He described how the farm had risen to the challenges it faced during the pandemic.

“It’s great that we’re such a small business. We can adapt,” he said.

"People want milk delivering to their door. They’re isolating. They want it tomorrow. We can do it tomorrow. We add them to the round.

"It’s been challenging but it’s been great. There’s been a real community feel so we’ve been able to bring milk and eggs and potatoes.

"We work with a local taxi firm and they were able to come up so rather than a taxi for people it was a taxi for food. The taxi drivers had nothing to do and all of a sudden they’re as busy as they’ve ever been, transporting food all over Sheffield….

"One of the things we’ve done to help people, as part of the community, with a bit of Covid assistance is we’ve got a vending machine up here now so people can come. They don’t need to see anybody, they can buy their essentials.”
