She said: "I think covid has been especially difficult for families with children. Many were isolated from friends, school and sense of normality.

“During this time a lot of families found a new appreciation for nature and how being outdoors can boost your mental health, but it was still isolating.

“That’s where Outdoor Mums UK really helped. They built a community for families to connect with one another, with outdoor activities, games, and crafts.

“It's helped us as a family reconnect with nature and instilled a lifelong love for the outdoors. So when the challenge was suggested to help the community grow we had to say yes.

“It's a lot of miles to cover, but here in Sheffield we have some great parks to explore, so I can't wait. It's going to be great fun for the little ones and with all our hills hopefully I'll be down a few dress sizes too by the end of it! I'm just hoping we get the weather but it's never stopped us before!"

Every week, the Wilson family will count their steps and log their miles on the official event’s page, along with photo updates and encouragement for other mums.

Outdoor Mums UK will tally the miles as the families attempt to 'walk the distance around the world in 80 days'.

This daring venture is the largest sponsored Outdoor Mums UK event to encourage families to step outside.

Any Sponsorship money raised will help the community to reach more families and continue to support and inspire them. Outdoor Mums have also created ‘Operation Outdoors’ where they will donate funds to support poorly or disadvantaged children to access the outdoors.
