A Sheffield estate where a woman was reportedly sexually assaulted in the early hours ‘very rarely has problems at all’, it has been claimed.

Police were called to Lingfoot Crescent in Jordanthorpe at 2.30am on Wednesday to reports a woman in her 20s had been sexually assaulted.

It is believed she was walking along Lingfoot Crescent when two men got out of a vehicle and approached her. The suspects are thought to have ran back to their vehicle and fled.

One resident at the nearby Lingfoot Walk flats, who only gave his name as Christopher, said: “I was walking the dog about 2.30 this morning and there was none of this [police activity] going on.

"I’m a bit shocked, I thought it was pretty quiet. It’s weird.”

A police cordon covering part of the Lingfoot Crescent flats was in place on Wednesday morning but has since been removed.

Christopher, who is originally from Jersey, added: “I’m led to believe this is pretty quiet.

"The whole estate is pretty similar. You see the police running about occasionally.”

Another man out walking his dog said: “It’s very rare there’s any problems round here at all.”

No residents The Star spoke to on Wednesday morning had seen or heard anything before they woke up to a police presence on their doorstep.

One 43-year-old woman, who has lived on Lingfoot Crescent for 10 years, said: “I love it round here.

"This side, you don’t really get any trouble.”

An investigation is underway and enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved.
