Responding to the ‘unfortunate news’, Mr Fletcher said: “I want to reach out to everyone involved in that business and confirm that CC33 FS will offer all employees nationwide a role, as we have home working positions available, to ensure no hardship during this period.”

He added: “We’ve extended this to their whole network as we have lots of home working opportunities.”

Staff at Utility Alliance, one of Hartlepool’s biggest employers, were informed of the bad news on Thursday.

Directors for the company, which had a turnover of £21million, blamed the impact of the pandemic and said they did everything they could to find new investment.

Earlier this month Mr Fletcher said CC33 was set to recruit 400 after experiencing ‘massive’ growth during the pandemic due to the expansion of existing accounts and new client wins.

The firm has just taken a large office at The Portergate, on Ecclesall Road, after outgrowing its space on Allen Street. Its Rotherham office is on Mansfield Road.

The company said it wanted telesales agents, team leaders and senior management positions.

Announcing the recruitment drive he said: “We’re really pleased to be in the fortunate position to recruit 400 people to join our offices in both Sheffield and Rotherham.

“It is a difficult time for everyone right now, and many have lost employment through no fault of their own. So, I’m really glad that we are able to provide these new roles.

“It is a fantastic start to 2021 and an exciting time for the company. I am extremely proud that we are able to offer these opportunities and continue to provide our usual excellent service despite the ongoing pandemic.”
