A German photographer who documented the Miners’ Strike from the frontline will share his story at a free talk on Saturday at 2pm at Experience Barnsley.

From branch meetings to soup kitchens, Michael Kerstgens recorded life in the town during the dispute.

Michael, a student from a mining family in Germany, came to Barnsley in 1984 and lived in Darfield with active campaigners Spud and Marsha Marshall.

Barnsley Council culture spokesman Coun Roy Miller said: “Michael’s talk promises to include some captivating tales.”
