Sheffield band Everly Pregnant Brothers join in Leadmill 40th anniversary celebrations

The band will ditch the ukuleles and go fully electric for what promises to be a raucous night on Saturday, May 2.

The news follows on from The Bootleg Beatles announcing a special standing show at the venue last month.

The band said: “To celebrate 40 years of the iconic Leadmill venue, the Brothers wanted to do something special as a tribute.

“Pete (McKee) recalled the time Bob Dylan rocked out on electric guitar at his UK shows in 1966 and was heckled and called ‘Judas’ by the audience.

“We thought it would be fun and fitting to ditch the ukuleles for one night and go ‘electric’.”

“Everly Pregnant Brothers have become a proper Sheffield staple and we’re so glad to have them back in the building,” said Sam Feeley, live promoter at The Leadmill.

“It’s going to be a real one-off this, the gigs are mad enough as they are, so imagine it with a full electric set-up!”

The Leadmill lays claim to being Sheffield’s longest-running current live music venue and nightclub.

Generations of music lovers have watched bands such as Pulp, Culture Club, The Housemartins, Manic Street Preachers, Coldplay, Muse, Oasis, Kate Nash, The Stereophonics, The White Stripes, The Stone Roses, The Maccabees, Kings of Leon, IDLES, Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, Paul Weller, James, The La’s and Richard Hawley.

The venue opened as a response to the lack of cultural facilities in Sheffield at a time of mass youth unemployment against the background of the decline of the steel industry in the era of Thatcherism.
