Barnsley photography exhibition brings 95 years of history into focus

The exhibition, called 95, is on show until Saturday, February 22 at the gallery on Church Street.

An eclectic range of contemporary images on show highlight the versatility, skills and talent of the society’s many members.

Visitors will be treated to a whole host of subjects, themes and styles in the free show hosted in the Sadler Room of the gallery.

The society is a member of the Yorkshire Photographic Union which is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain.

Barnsley Photographic Society welcomes members of all abilities and ages and offers mentoring to improve photography skills, talks, competitions, social events, outings and workshops.

The society’s history dates back to its founding on May 21, 1924 in the Shambles Street photographic studio of Mr A Roberts.

The original subscription was five shillings per year, says the society’s website.

Nights at theatre, Victorian style

The club meets at 8pm on Mondays between September and April at Emmanuel Methodist Church on Huddersfield Road, Barnsley.

These days, the group embrace new technology such as digital photography and digital imaging.
