This comes after locals raised concerns about the number of cars parked along and off Rother Valley Way, Sothall, by people wishing to gain entry to Rother Valley Country Park.

The cars are parked on the street in spite of there being a large car park in the country park itself.

John Clamp, who works at Burrows Mint Cars on Rother Valley Way, said the parking is ‘dangerous’ and ‘an accident waiting to happen’.

Now Labour councillors have committed the council to working up a series of options to improve parking around Rother Valley Park.

And local residents can have their say on the issue at a public meeting, and suggest what they would like to see done as a solution.

Councillor Chris Rosling-Josephs, of the Beighton Labour Party, said: “We are concerned about the impact excess traffic is causing around the park. “There is no quick fix to the issue – for instance more double yellow lines could just lead to more people parking on the Meadowgate Estate – which no one wants to see.

“But we have tasked Sheffield City Council to work up different options. Crucially, we want to ensure that the voices of residents are being heard, and to listen to the ideas that they have.

“As such Beighton Labour Party is hosting a public event for residents to hear what they think. The Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport has agreed to attend and the responses at this meeting will directly affect the next course of action.

“In the meantime, we are also working with the police to flag up traffic offences, and last Saturday action was taken against those causing offence around Rother Valley Way and the roundabout”.

The meeting will be held virtually on 11th February at 2pm. Clive Betts, Labour MP for Sheffield South East, has confirmed that he will attend.
