Yoto has unveiled a new 4th Gen Player and Mini model bringing personalised playlists, easier routines and a tougher design for family adventures.

A much-loved children’s audio player has had a major makeover, with Yoto launching two new models designed to make screen-free listening even easier for families.

The new Yoto Player 4th Gen and Yoto Mini 4th Gen are now available to pre-order, and they bring a variety of upgrades to the devices that have become a familiar part of many children’s routines.

But, parents, carers and children of all ages who are already fans will be pleased to know that the core idea remains the same, Yoto says its latest generation has been designed around the way families actually use them.

One of the biggest changes is the new green button, which could make those moments when children want to listen to their favourite stories or songs much more straightforward. Once an adult has set it up in the free Yoto App, children can use the button to access a personalised playlist of up to 20 favourite titles without needing to find and insert a Yoto Card.

That means a child could have their favourite bedtime story, calming sounds or music ready to play, while a morning playlist could include Yoto Daily, a toothbrush timer and some fun facts. It can also be used for digital-only content and free audio available through the app, giving families more flexibility in how they use the player.

It could be particularly useful as Yoto libraries grow. Instead of searching through a pile of cards for a particular favourite, children can have the content they listen to most gathered in one place, helping them become more independent with their listening.

The new Yoto Player 4th Gen has also been designed with routines in mind too, with a full-panel night light that can be used to create a calming bedtime atmosphere or provide an Ok-to-Wake cue. Parents can choose from seven colours, while Yoto says future software updates will introduce dynamic lighting effects to complement what children are listening to.

For families already using Yoto as part of their everyday routine, the new features could make it even easier to build the player into everyday life. With darker evenings and autumn weather setting in, having a screen-free activity ready to go could be a big win in many households.

The hardware itself has also had an overhaul. The Yoto Player 4th Gen has a faster processor, more memory, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 6.1, while both new models now have 64GB of storage, enough for more than 1,000 hours of offline listening.

The smaller Yoto Mini 4th Gen is designed to be taken wherever children go and has been given an IP67 splash- and dust-resistant design so it can be used worry free. That makes it better suited to everything from trips to the grandparents to family days out.

Both new players also come with a free digital Yoto Card to get families started, with 5 Minute Stories From Around the World included with the Player and Journey Jams included with the Mini. There’s also a free Make Your Own Card and stickers in the box with both models.

The Yoto Player 4th Gen costs £119.99, while the Yoto Mini 4th Gen costs £89.99. Both are available to pre-order now, with the Mini expected to dispatch from September 30 and the Player from October 15.

For families looking for a way to make mornings, bedtimes and those long autumn evenings a little easier, the latest Yoto generation looks set to put even more of children’s favourite audio within easy reach. The biggest question will be which one you choose.
