Eight new Sheffield restaurants and bars opening in 2018

With several new bars and restaurants opening across the city soon, Sheffield foodies have lots to look forward to in 2018.

Olive

Located on Ecclesall Road, new family-run Mediterranean restaurant, Olive, is due to open on 18 January.

Owned by two brothers, originally from Morocco, the Olive team have picked up decades of experience in kitchens throughout Italy and across the UK.

Cargo Hold

A historic Grade II listed building (on the corner of Church Street and Vicar Lane) is set to open soon as a new restaurant and cocktail bar.

Named Cargo Hold, the venue will be a Mediterranean seafood and grill restaurant, serving up fresh, locally-sourced produce and unique cocktails.

Birdhouse Tea Bar and Kitchen

Newly opened in a former factory near the city centre, the Birdhouse Tea Bar and Kitchen is open from 8am to 10pm, offering a range of healthy and delicious breakfasts, lunches and evening options.

This new venture comes from the Sheffield-based Birdhouse Tea Company.

As well as stocking their own tea blends, the eatery will also serve local produce from the likes of Porter Brook Deli, Moss Valley Meats, Foundry Coffee Roasters and Abbeydale Brewery.

Meltdown

Meltdown (the world's first chain of eSports bars) are due to open a new venue in Sheffield in 2018.

The bars offer gamers the chance to enjoy drinks and a sociable environment while playing their favourite games.

Park Hill flats cafe

Sheffield's iconic Park Hill flats are currently undergoing renovations to transform them into an area of upmarket apartments, business units, and social housing.

As part of the development, a new independent cafe (name yet to be announced) will be opening, serving Middle Eastern-inspired vegetarian food during the day, and dinner and drinks on Friday evenings.

A historic pub, which dates back to the 1800s, is currently undergoing renovations and will open soon as The Blind Monkey.

The new bar will have a speakeasy vibe, with Edwardian decor, art deco touches and a nod to the prohibition era.

The Blind Monkey will focus on sourcing local produce for their street food menu, and serving a range of regional cask ales, craft beers, gins and other spirits.

Gino D'Acampo My Restaurant

Celebrity chef Gino D'Acampo (who famously changed his middle name to Sheffield on a 2015 episode of Celebrity Juice) is finally opening a restaurant in the city.

Part of his My Restaurant chain, the eatery will serve classic Italian dishes - including gourmet pasta, pizzas and antipasti platters - when it opens later in 2018.

Former museum bar

A new bar is due to open in the former Sheffield's Traditional Heritage Museum building on Ecclesall Road later this year.

Details of the venue are still under wraps, but it has been hinted that the bar will be part of a small independent chain which mainly operates across the north of England.
