Argos is urgently recalling a children’s bunk bed after it was found the rungs on the bed’s ladder were unsafe and could break off when stood on.

The retailer received reports of a safety issue with the Ohio High Sleeper and has advised customers who have the product at home to stop using it immediately.

‘Potential to cause injury’

In a recall notice issued by Trading Standards, the retailer said customers had reported that the rungs on the ladder had rotated and broken off when put under pressure, in a “small number of cases”.

The notice, issued by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission of Ireland, reads: “In a small number of cases, customers reported the following:

  • Rungs / steps on the ladder rotating even after re-tightening; or
  • Rungs / steps on the ladder becoming detached

“The ladder has the potential to cause injury if the rungs / steps rotate or detach.”

Advice for customers

The Argos Home Ohio High Sleeper was sold in white, grey and beech colours, and in two different sizes (standard and short), with a range of mattress options.

All of the bunk beds sold came with a ladder, so the safety recall applies to all three of the colours and size options sold.

Customers who purchased the product are advised to stop using the ladder immediately, and to avoid using the bed without the aid of the ladder.

It is recommended the ladder is removed out of the reach of children and disposed of safely.

The retailer is offering a replacement ladder to all customers who purchased the Ohio High Sleeper.
