Pubs can start selling takeaway pints again in Sheffield – this is when they can start

Takeaway drinks from hospitality establishments became a popular pastime in the first lockdown, with Sheffield’s pubs and bars seeing it as an inventive way to generate income despite being shut – whilst walkers found it as a nice way to break up their explorations.

More recently, during this lockdown, bars and pubs across the city have been using delivery apps to flog their finest ales as physical takeaway of alcohol was banned.

Establishments such as Two Thirds Beer Co. on Abbeydale Road and the Red Deer in the city centre have offered cask ale from the keg straight to your door.

Now, Downing Street has confirmed when they will be back as part of the ‘roadmap’ out of lockdown.

The Prime Minister's official spokesman has said plastic pints will be part of "step two, from no earlier than the 12th of April, in line with outdoor hospitality."

Pubs, bars and restaurants will be allowed to return with outdoor only service and seating from April 12.

It has been confirmed that the drink with a meal only rule, along with the 10pm curfew will no longer be in play – but there are still plenty of businesses that will miss out.

Indoor dining and drinking will only be allowed from May 17 at the earliest as part of the ‘roadmap’, and establishments with limited outdoor seating will be allowed to serve takeaway drinks instead to make up for the inability to open.
