Officers told how they were patrolling the streets of Burngreave on Friday night when they spotted people running from the side of what they thought was an empty property.

"After detaining 10 of the males seen coming out, it was apparent they were running through fear of being caught by police rather than any danger inside the building, as it became quite clear they had all been taking part in a little COVID-UNFRIENDLY social smoking inside this shisha lounge!” said South Yorkshire Police’s Sheffield North East neighbourhood policing team in a post on Facebook.

“After listening to a wide range of fantastical embellished stories (None of which were believed), all the males were issued with £200 Covid tickets along with the owner who will be handed a £1,000 fine through Sheffield City Council.”
