Popular Sheffield bar closed due to Covid transforms into foodbank drop-off point

The Tiger Works, on West Street is more used to serving drinks to night time revellers than collecting food bank donations.

But staff at the bar wanted to help out those less fortunate during these difficult times.

Bar owner, Joanne Zsirai, is opening the building up as a collection point for S6 Foodbank today between 11am and 3pm.

She said: “We‘ve been in touch with S6 Foodbank and asked them what they desperately needed.”

Student Beth Campbell, who works at the bar part-time, and her flatmates Callum Bullimore and Lauren Flook wanted to do something for families struggling in the current pandemic.

“They felt strongly about it really, and thought it would be a good idea, and I agreed with them.everything helps,” said Joanne.

Beth is a second year student at Sheffield Hallam University. She works part time at the bar and is also in charge of its social media and marketing.

She was inspired to launch a collection point after watching Marcus Rashford's campaign, which showed how some families were receiving sub standard food parcels to help feed children at half-term.

This inspired her and they are using the premises as a drop off for non perishable goods, such as tinned food ,toiletries and nappies size six to seven.

Beth said: “The Marcus Rashford campaign about families getting food parcels, and they’ve just been nothing, and they’re supposed to be worth £30.

“And while there’s been no bar and nothing to do we thought we could help.”
