Kieron Freeman’s stint in League One didn’t last long, though, with the former Blades defender making a somewhat surprising return to the Championship with promotion-cashing Swansea City.

The Swans announced the signing at 12.45am, almost two hours after the deadline, with Freeman moving for an undisclosed fee.

The one-cap Wales international has signed a contract until the end of the season.

Freeman made 141 appearances for United, playing a pivotal role in promotion to the Championship in Chris Wilder’s first season and remained a key member of the squad that went up into the Premier League.

The 28-year old was released in August last year and, such are his talents, was surprisingly without a club until January when he moved to Swindon Town.

Freeman made just two appearanes for the Robins before his deadline day move.
