Sheffield Crown Court heard on February 4 how Thomas Meucci, aged 34, was caught with the indecent images by police who visited his former home on Ashgate Road, near Broomhill, Sheffield.

Judge Sarah Wright told Meucci: “You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself. These were appalling images. The serious nature of this type of offending is that you are a danger to children and the consumer of this material – that is you – causes others to commit very serious offences against children in order to produce that material.

"It’s troubling that you were working with young children when you were searching for these images.”

Ian Goldsack, prosecuting, said police attended Meucci’s former home on January 7, 2019, and he admitted he had been downloadng indecent images and he had felt sick afterwards.

Meucci, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images including 20 category A images, seven category B and 23 category C, with category A being the most serious.

Mr Goldsack added the images had been viewed and deleted and they had involved youngsters aged between 4 and 14-years-old with the majority aged between eight and 10-years-old.

There was no evidence the images had been exchanged with others, according to Mr Goldsack, or of conversations with others about the content.

Allan Dooley, defending, said Meucci has separated from his partner as a result of his offending after he had moved to Sheffield to be with her.

Mr Dooley added Meucci has lost his employment and it is unlikely he will find work in that field again and he had hoped to be a counsellor.

Meucci, of Laurie Crescent, Henleaze, Bristol, believes he had stopped searching for indecent images around 2018, according to Mr Dooley, and he has sought help to address his issues.

Judge Sarah Wright, who feels Meucci has a prospect of rehabiliation, sentenced him to a two-year community order with a sex-offender programme and a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement. Meucci was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and was made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years.
