Yungblud has claimed that his controversial music is a “generation apart” from popular bands such as Arctic Monkeys and The 1975.

The singer, 25, from Doncaster, whose real name is Dominic Richard Harrison, has described the two indie-rock bands as “older” and “very serious”.

He told Rolling Stone UK that he relates more to the likes of Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Mac Miller and Lil Peep - the later two of whom died from an accidental drug overdose.

Yungblud said: “When I look at The 1975 and Arctic Monkeys, they’re such a different generation to me.

“When they speak, they’re profound now. I don’t want to be profound yet.

“I don’t relate to them as much as I used to. They’re older and it’s all very serious. We’re absolutely a generation apart, there’s a big difference between us.”

However, the controversial singer described the Arctic Monkeys as a “truly great British artist”, alongside the late Amy Winehouse and Newcastle’s Sam Fender.

The artist, who recently released his third and self-titled album, described his musical process as the “feeling of throwing paint at the wall”.

Dominic began dating Jesse Jo Stark in 2021, and described the American singer as his “best friend” - despite having previously admitted to being pansexual and polyamorous.

Yungblud has won six prestigious awards for his music, despite the controversial lyrics, including a NME for Best Music Video and an Amazon Music Award for Best Live Act.

He has previously collaborated with the likes of Machine Gun Kelly, Travis Barker and Willow Smith.
