This summer, Sheffield Theatres are introducing an intense one-week course for young performers aged 14 to 20 who are interested in a career in musical theatre.
An extension to the theatres' popular summer school programme, the new course specialising in musical theatre will run from Monday, August 8 to Saturday 13.
A spokesman for Sheffield Theatres said: "It’s a fantastic opportunity for talented youngsters to learn tips and tricks of the trade from West End performers, who will lead master classes in dance, drama and singing.
"Participants will also learn about choreography, staging, audition techniques and much more. The summer school will conclude with a showcase at the end of the week on the Crucible stage."
In recent years Sheffield Theatres has established a reputation for outstanding productions of musicals with hit shows like Show Boat, which transferred to the West End, Anything Goes,
Oliver, My Fair Lady and more recently, brand new musical Flowers for Mrs Harris.
Now this expertise will be shared with the next generation of performers, helping ensure local talent is nurtured.
The Musical Theatre Summer School costs £275, with a limited number of subsidised bursary places available. Entry on to the course is by audition, and these will take place on Saturday (June 18).
There is no cost to audition but anyone wishing to attend must complete an application form and book a time slot.
