Sheffield drama group plea for raunchy painting

Sheffield theatre group Denys Edwards Players are searching for anyone who has a copy of an iconic 1970s painting, Stephen Pearson's Wings of Love,  for their production of Mike Leigh's 1970s comedy of manners, Abigail's Party.

A spokesman for the group said: “This racy artwork plays a dramatic part in the plot, so whether it is hidden away in the cupboard or has pride of place in the front room, get in touch with the theatre group if you want to see it on stage.”

Abigail’s Party is a satire on middle class snobbery, made famous by a 1977 BBC TV Play for Today version starring Alison Steadman.

In the play, a couple invite the new neighbours and other friends over for drinks. As the booze flows, couples snipe at each other and flirt with the others as Abigail’s teenage birthday party gets louder and louder next door.

The group are performing the comedy at the Library Theatre, Tudor Square from August 15 to 18.
