A number of casualties have been taken to hospital following a crash in Sheffield this afternoon.

Police said they were called to Main Road, in Darnall, at 3.40pm this afternoon to reports of a collision between two cars.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said 'a number' of people were being treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. He said the extent of their injuries was not known at this stage.

The road remained cordoned off at 5pm but police said it was expected to reopen shortly.
