Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after shooting in Sheffield

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was shot in Sheffield.

A 23-year-old man was shot in the hand in Chapeltown on Sunday (April 23) afternoon following a disturbance involving a group of men on quad bikes in woodland off Smithy Wood Road.

He was seriously injured, with one member of the public suggesting he may have lost fingers in the attack, but police said his wounds were not life-threatening.

South Yorkshire Police said a 29-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At about 2pm on Sunday (April 23), officers were called to an area of woodland close to Smithywood, Chapeltown, following reports of a disturbance.

"A 23-year-old man riding his quad bike in the area is said to have been approached by a group of men, who were also riding quad bikes, before a brief disturbance.

"During the incident, a gun was fired, resulting in the 23-year-old man suffering serious injuries to his hand. His injuries are not life-threatening."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting the incident number 574 of April 23.
