International superstar Lionel Richie will bring his UK tour to Sheffield Arena next Wednesday (June 22), with Yorkshire's own Corinne Bailey Rae as his special guest.
His concerts are world-renowned for their party atmosphere and audiences will be able to join Lionel in singing along to all the hits from his extensive and much-loved repertoire spanning decades – all the way from the Commodores to the present day – including classics such as Hello, Easy, Dancing On The Ceiling, Say You Say Me, Three Times a Lady and All Night Long.
Lionel said: “I always have a great time when I’m in the UK and I’m really pleased Corinne is going to be joining me on tour for these special shows.”
Leeds-born rising star Corinne Bailey Rae performed recently at the Grammy MusiCares Tribute concert honouring Lionel Richie as their Performer Of The Year, alongside the likes of Stevie Wonder, Dave Grohl, John Legend, Rihanna and Florence Welch.
Corinne released her new album The Heart Speaks In Whispers on May 13, her first collection of new material for six years. Recorded both at her studio in Leeds and in Los Angeles, the album is described as rich in fresh ideas and full of emotional energy.
She said: “I’ve always been a huge fan of Lionel Richie. His music has soundtracked many moments of my life. It’s an honour to be asked to join him on his British tour.”
The UK fell back in love with Lionel last year following a tour that received glittering reviews and culminated in a phenomenal Glastonbury performance. After drawing the biggest crowd of the weekend with more than 150,000 people flocking to the Pyramid Stage, Lionel’s album The Definitive Collection reached Number 1 on the UK album charts for the first time in 23 years.
Lionel went on to receive GQ’s Icon Award, adding to a celebrated career which includes four GRAMMYs, a Golden Globe and even an Oscar. Having sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, Lionel shows no signs of slowing down.
