Two different shows inspired by the 1950s and 60s glamour of the famous Rat Pack are appearing at local theatres.
Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin are back together in The Rat Pack: Live from Las Vegas.
Drift back in time to the glamorous, glitzy nights of Vegas in the company of three of the world’s most popular entertainers and experience what it might have been like to see this iconic trio performing at the famous Sands Hotel on the Strip with the fabulous Burrelli Sisters, The Rat Pack Big Band and the legendary jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald.
The team behind the show promise you’ll hear all your favourite songs, including: The Lady is a Tramp, Mr BoJangles, That’s Amore, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, My Way and Everybody Loves Somebody.
Stephen Triffitt, who appears as Sinatra, has actually starred at the Sands Hotel in Atlantic City as Old Blue Eyes in a show called The Main Event.
He also performed as Sinatra on Star in Their Eyes in 2000.
Sheffield twins Jon and Chris Hibbard return with their show, Crooners, first seen locally a year ago.
Jon said: “As a Sheffield lad, I’m really looking forward to bringing this show as close to Sheffield as the tour allowed!”
Their show is more loosely inspired by the Rat Pack era and the popular big band sound of the times, mixing the era’s cool style with a lot of comic elements.
Jon said: “Crooners has been wowing audiences with hilarious one liners, satirical energy, laugh-out-loud silliness and superb musical numbers with the nine-piece band live on stage.
“A high energy production brings song and dance back to the UK theatre with a splendiferous injection of British humour and superb stand-up. A show like no other, ‘Morecambe and Wise meets the Rat Pack’.”
He added: “Crooners follows the story of three very British gentlemen who exude the characteristics of a crooner; suave, self-assured, stylish, as they defend the role of a crooner in our modern world.
“By the very same nature, it is not always obvious that these characteristics are adopted quite so well by the quintessentially British.
“Cue a splendiferous injection of British comedy. Tongue firmly in cheek. And an outrageous injection of big band swing.”
One of the show’s stars is Jim Whitley, who is a former professional footballer.
Jim played for Manchester City and Wrexham and was a NorthernIreland international who took up singing and tap dancing after injury ended his football career early.
