A comedian with cerebral palsy has praised 'fellow wobbly' Jared O'Mara after the Labour politician ousted Nick Clegg in Sheffield.

Francesca Martinez tweeted the new Labour MP for Sheffield Hallam, who also has the condition, following his dramatic general election victory in the early hours of Friday.

"Huge congrats to fellow wobbly Jared O'Mara @ShefHallamLab for his incredible victory in Sheffield Hallam!" she wrote yesterday evening.

Mr O'Mara defeated the former Liberal Democrat leader to take Sheffield Hallam with a majority of over 2,000, meaning Labour now hold all six seats in Sheffield.

Ms Martinez is a stand-up comedian who first came to prominence as an actress on the children's TV show Grange Hill.

She has cerebral palsy, a brain condition affecting people's movement and coordination, but prefers to refer to herself as 'wobbly'.

She wasn't the only one to hail Mr O'Mara's victory on Twitter.

Tapton School, which he attended, tweeted: "Congratulations to Jared O’Mara @ShefHallamLab former pupil who has been elected as MP for Sheffield Hallam. Amazing role model!"

In his victory speech on Friday morning, Sheffield's newest Labour MP promised to champion the rights of those with disabilities.
