Wellgate and surrounding streets were highlighted in public questions time at a full meeting of the authority, with a resident likening Warwick Street as “like something from Slumdog Millionaire”.
The woman spoke of the “dismal, dirty state of Wellgate”, as a major thoroughfare, with litter including dirty nappies left in the street.

She was told by Coun Sarah Allen said she had visited the area every day since the question was submitted to the council, ahead of the meeting and had also spoken with the council’s Street Pride service, which is responsible for street cleaning.
“Since September, 20 fines have been issued in Wellgate for littering,” she said.
