Police in South Yorkshire have challenged the public to identify whether this 'firearm' seized today is real or fake.
The item, which was recovered by officers in Rawmarsh, Rotherham, certainly appears to be the genuine article at first glance.
Rotherham Central local policing team, which tweeted the photo this evening, has yet to publish the answer to the poser.
But it did point out the very real danger to anyone carrying a firearm, imitation or otherwise.
An authorised firearms officer (AFO) has on average just 0.7 seconds to make a decision about whether a potential weapon is genuine, it tweeted.
That's less time than it's taken to read this in which to assess the danger and decide whether to pull the trigger.
