The win – United’s fourth in five games across all competitions – means Chris Wilder’s side are 10 points adrift of safety as they continue their desperate battle to avoid relegation to the Championship.

However, the Blades will face a daunting task to make it a Manchester double against a City side in scintillating form after putting five past hapless West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Tuesday evening.
