Youth council travel debate

Have your say

YOUNG people have been asked for their views about the future of a card giving them free bus travel and discounted journeys on trains in Barnsley.

Members of the town’s Youth Council were consulted about what changes should be made to the Mi Card due to lack of funding.

Barnsley Council said it wants to retain the scheme ‘in some form’.

Judith Harwood, young people executive director, answered questions from the Youth Council.

She said: “I was really impressed by the sophisticated and detailed decision-making process undertaken by the young people.

“In particular they considered how their decision would impact on the young people who they are elected to represent and they approached the whole matter with integrity and a sound moral approach.”

The Mi Card allows free bus travel for under 18s in Barnsley, discounted train travel and is also a library card.
