I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Sheffield for their tributes, messages of support, Brendan stories, kindness, flowers and donations after the death of my father.
In particular, I would like to thank the staff and clergy at Sheffield Cathedral who were absolutely wonderful.
So too were Sheffield City Council and their city centre management team as well at the Cutlers’ Hall staff and of course, The Star who had supported him since he turned up in Sheffield as an immigrant and journeyman boxer in the late 1950s.
My father would have been stunned by the attention his death received and even more amazed at his funeral. We wish he could have seen it.
As a family we are devastated by our loss.
But we take comfort from how much he was loved by you all in Sheffield.
