I recently saw for the first time in the many years I have lived here, two individuals in regulation hard hats and high vis coats picking up litter on the Charnock estate and then to my surprise two days later two more people picking up litter on Manor Top.
That is rather an unusual sight and I wondered if we were in for a Royal visit.
Then it struck me, the local council elections are due in a couple of weeks.
Picking up litter, not cutting down trees!
They didn’t really need to bother trying to influence people because the usual suspects will no doubt be returned to the Town Hall.
This city and certainly South Yorkshire people have habitually voted Labour, mainly due a lack of political discernment that is due in part to family tradition and the long-held belief that Labour is for the working man, when in reality nothing could be further from the truth.
Many people abstain from voting rather than consider any other party and therefore because of this negativity and apathy we have had the socialist influence and power control in this area since time immemorial and where has it led us?
The answer is precisely nowhere.
Anyone who thinks Sheffield is a major player in the political scheme of UK cities needs to take a reality check.
It’s a given that things here will not change politically and therefore we will remain in the second division of UK cities.
People who didn’t vote will still continue to moan about the councillors.
Sorry, I forgot they have tried to assume a higher self importance by calling themselves cabinet members.
