AND talking of walking, it seems there’s good news and bad news for a Sheffield’s annual strolling spectacular...
The Walk Sheffield festival – a week of organised hikes and themed saunters – may have suffered a disappointing opening weekend.
But attendances since Monday suggest it is set to become the most popular in its 12 year history.
“The weather has been hit and miss but the anecdotal evidence so far is people have been turning out in droves,” says Terry Howard, event co-ordinator with Sheffield Walking Forum. “Every year we get new people coming and they’re always astounded by how much of Sheffield they haven’t seen.
“We’re looking at well over 300 people having attended this time.”
Particularly popular routes so far have included a Secret Spaces route taking in Manor Lodge and Inner City Reservoirs, a circular route from Weston Park.
And there are still four more days to go. For upcoming routes visit www.sheffield.gov.uk/walking then pull on your boots.
