FROM one Sheffield artist to another, and proving just as popular as Luke’s images, it seems, are these chicken-wire animals – no porkies.
Ceramicist Fenella Noble has swapped her clay sculpting for mesh modelling and the results are a marvellous menagerie including, right, this little piglet.
And the galvanised garden decorations were such a hit with punters attending Sheffield’s recent Open Up weekend, where artists welcome the public into their private studio, she has now been asked to display them at the Botanical Garden’s Art In The Gardens weekend in September.
“I’m trained to work in clay,” says the 64-year-old retired Birkdale School teacher of Knowle Lane, Ecclesall. “But nothing I’ve done has sold as well as these.
“It’s lovely to think people like them. I’ve been asked to teach people how to make them but I don’t think I could. I just shape them as I see them in my mind.”
The grandmother-of-four was inspired to create the collection – she’s also produced cows and foxes – after seeing something similar in Poland.
