A NEW Sheffield art complex is hoping to have passers-by stampeding through its doors with a brand new natural world exhibition.

A vivid elephant, right, is among animal, landscape and sea scene paintings by Chapeltown artist Jemimah Lipka on show at Hard Slog Art, in Infirmary Road.

It is the first exhibition at the centre, which doubles up as a studio space, since it was opened by chef-turned-painter Simon Wright in October.

And the 40-year-old is hoping the bright colours and bold strokes will attract plenty of passing trade.

“This is what you might call art for real people,” he said. “It’s not abstract, it’s just great real pictures. We have a big window where I sit and paint, and I’ll be positioning some of the paintings so they can clearly be seen by anyone walking down the street.”

Jemimah, 26, of Livingstone Road, said: “I try and use colours as a way of bringing out the beauty of the world.”

Runs until February.
