MEET Katie Ford - she’s fit as a fiddle. The 29-year-old has just been named best personal trainer in the UK ahead of more than 2,000 hopefuls.

“I want to see everyone hitting their fitness goals,” she brightly tells your Diarist at 9am on a cold Wednesday morning before leaping into a press up routine.

She’s energetic, all right – but then she needs to be.

The former Bradfield School pupil, of Stannington Road, Stannington, sees 45 clients each week and she says every one of them is on course to smash their targets.

Past successes have included getting a client with a damaged spinal chord who could barely walk running in 16 weeks and helping another lose eight stone.

“That’s what I love about the job,” she says. “It really feels like you’re helping someone, that what you do matters.”

She was named the best out of 2,000 trainers currently working at Fitness First centres around the country. She’s based at the Hillsborough gym in Penistone Road North and judges took into account references and results.

And her healthy job is keeping it in the family. Dad Jeff was an Olympics running coach – and Katie represented Great Britain at race walking.
