Best scenic highway

Have your say

Does anyone know why the Snake road was so called?

Was it because of its twisting pathway, the snake’s head shaped by the Ladybower reservoir at Ashopton, or both?

Whatever, in my opinion, it is among the best scenic highways in England for cyclists as well as motorists.

At its peak, it splits the moors to Kinder Scout and Bleaklow having hidden its scenic peaceful valley not far from the Snake Inn towards Lady Clough Moor, which can also be accessed by a two-hour hike from Hayfield.
