NOW the snooker has packed up and gone wherever it goes for the other 50 weeks of the year, perhaps we should reflect on just what a superb event the World Championship is for Sheffield.
With the stars milling around The Crucible, the outdoor events in Tudor Square, the Winter Gardens exhibition and the fact my dad visited for a session and later bought me a pie and pea supper, it all adds up to a carnival fortnight.
But the real highlight?
Surely one online wit’s observation he’d just seen Ronnie O’Sullivan - “and he is the double of Mr Rigsby”.
A sterling spot, sir.
SOUTH Yorkshire was done proud at this year’s Miss Universe Great Britain, it seems.
Rotherham beautician Jaime-Lee Faulkner couldn’t quite win the title but the 21-year-old – last year’s Miss South Yorkshire – still enjoyed the contest at Birmingham’s International Conference Centre.
The same day, meanwhile, this year’s Miss South Yorkshire, Hannah Higgins, could be seen modelling with Bob The Builder at Crystal Peaks retail park. Such glamour.
