Your Rio Olympic diary Sunday August 8

The International Olympic Committee's list of flag bearers for the opening ceremony almost required a magnifying glass to make out the names but one of our eagle-eyed correspondents spotted a curious error in Team GB's entry, where one 'Andy Murry' was fulfilling the role. Togo's Akossiwa Claire Ayivon finished last in her women's single sculls heat, just hours after getting home from the opening ceremony. Keen to make the most out of life in Rio de Janeiro, the 19-year-old joined the Togolese contingent at the Maracana on Friday evening and on Saturday morning finished 1 minute 29.60 seconds behind the winner.

American Airlines flight 973 from New York to Rio was understandably packed on Friday evening as spectators and competitors alike - including Thailand's male golfers Thongchai Jaidee and Kiradech Aphibarnrat - made the journey to Brazil. And any of those passengers annoyed at missing out on watching the opening ceremony were in for a pleasant surprise as the plane's in-flight entertainment system was able to show live coverage from the Maracana during taxi and take-off.

TWEET/QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Hey @CaroWozniacki I think we make a great couple, what ya think @McIlroyRory" - Irish boxer Paddy Barnes cheekily takes a snap alongside Rory McIlroy's former fiancee Caroline Wozniacki.
