Youngsters set to showcase talents at Sheffield Teenage Market

A Teenage Market is to be held in Sheffield city centre to give young people the chance to showcase their talents for free.

The event, organised by the Federation of Small Businesses, Sheffield College and Sheffield Council, will be held in the Peace Gardens on Saturday, June 11.

On that day Pinstone Street will be alive with young market traders, whilst local teenage performers will have an opportunity to perform in front of a crowd.

Andrew Flower, chairman of the FSB’s South Yorkshire branch, said: “We’re now on the lookout for young people aged 12 to 29 who want to become market traders for a day to make some money, and performers who want to entertain Sheffield’s Saturday shoppers.

“We’re seeking to encourage more enterprising young people to have a go and exercise their entrepreneurial talents.”

Sheffield Heeley MP Louise Haigh - Labour’s youngest MP - is championing the project.

She said: “Young people’s inventiveness and creativity can contribute a real dynamism in terms of enterprise, which this project hopes to nurture.

“This is an exciting project and I look forward to working with the FSB, local council, schools, colleges and universities to bring the best out of our city’s students, by building the skills and opportunities needed to start new businesses and help make Sheffield the real heart of the northern revival.”

The Teenage Market is a growing nationwide initiative set up by teenage brothers Joe and Tom Barratt in Stockport as a way to support young people. To find out more visit www.theteenagemarket.co.uk
