Youngsters' lotto playtime bonus

Almost 26,000 has been awarded to DARTS - Doncaster Community Arts - to fund its Art Adventures on the Move weekly play workshops involving visual arts, drama and music.

The first stage of the project will work with local groups to find out what barriers prevent children, who might have a disability, and parents involved in substance misuse or who have English as a second language, from taking part in the workshops.

Work will then take place to overcome the barriers and encourage more children from socially excluded backgrounds to take part. The children’s own ideas will then decide the direction and content of the weekly arts sessions.

Hannah Verow, DARTS education manager, said: “DARTS will develop and deliver the ‘Art Adventures on the Move’ programme which aims to positively engage and celebrate the diverse range of individuals within Doncaster, removing barriers and creating wider access to playful creative experiences.

“By running ‘satellite’ sessions with six partner organisations in Doncaster, DARTS aims to connect with families that might not ordinarily access arts-based sessions.

“These outreach sessions will use various art forms to engage parents and children in playful exploration of the arts.

“Sessions will take place out in the local community, followed by regular weekly sessions at The Point, Doncaster’s arts building.”
