Youngsters invited to showcase ideas

Code>Make>Win - a city-wide competition being run by Sheffield City Council - is open for entries in four categories: software apps, games, robotics and animation.

The showcase has already successfully unearthed over 100 young people, who are actively coding and making, across the city since it launched in 2015.

Louisa Harrison-Walker, the managing director of Benchmark Recruit, which has sponsored the competition the last two years, said: “We are delighted to sponsor this inspiring initiative for the second year running, continuing to support the development of young creative and digital talent.

“Based on the high level of creations from last year’s Code>Make>Win we are expecting great things from the talented pool of young people.”

Local businesses can also get involved by supporting the city’s next generation of tech talent. Last year Benchmark offered a ‘Best Innovation’ prize which went to Jack Underwood, aged 12, of Westfield School, for his ‘Student Essentials’ app, that helps pupils track their homework. Other winners included 19-year-old Andrew Deniszczyc, from Sheffield, who is studying at The University of Cambridge, and Maddie Harding, aged nine, from Ecclesall Church of England Junior School.

Programme Manager Rob Walker, of Sheffield City Council, said: “Code>Make>Win is very important to us as a city as it promotes and recognises the talent that our young people have in digital. We see this competition as an important part of our developing digital skills landscape.”
