Youngsters enjoy a fun trip behind scenes at supermarket

BUBBLES the Clown and his sidekick Scotty the Dog gave children a fun trip around a new South Yorkshire supermarket.

The youngsters from Gooseacre Primary School learned about healthy eating in the fruit and veg aisle and maths on the checkouts in the new Netto store in Thurnscoe before being entertained by the Bubbles magic show.

They were also given goodie bags of fresh fruit and bread to get the school’s new Breakfast Club off to a flying start.

The move is part of Netto’s commitment to support the community and urge children to eat five portions of fresh fruit and vegetables a day.

Nicola Fowler, teacher at Gooseacre Primary in Thurnscoe, said: “It was fantastic to see the children learn about what happens in a supermarket. Bubbles and Scotty were brilliant at looking after them and I know that each one of our students really enjoyed themselves.

“The fruit and bread is really appreciated too. If we can feed the children nutritious food first thing on a morning then it will help them make a great start to a day’s learning.”

Jason Wild, store manager, said: “It was fantastic to see all the smiling happy faces of the children.”
