Youngsters can get us out of Lo' situation: Aston

The Eagles are looking to end a wretched run by completing a league double over Richard Marshall’s side after a 26-6 success at Bawtry Road earlier in the season.

Since their first meeting back in February, the two sides have gone in opposite directions with the Eagles slipping to eighth position in The Championship standings.

Aston is now looking at the long term benefits of his close season recruitment, signalling his belief that his plethora of young stars will eventually benefit from the current experience.

“As much as we are disappointed, you look at the age of these kids and it excites me,” Aston told The Star.

“You look at players like George Tyson, young Matty Fozard is only 21 and Garry Lo is just 22. We have a lot of kids out there; Minchella and Aston are two more. These youngsters are taking a little bit of time to settle but we have to stay with them and keep them together. We need to keep our belief in these lads, keep our focus and I am sure they are only going to get better.”

One player who has shown considerable promise is winger Lo.

Despite two separate injury setbacks in his short career in South Yorkshire, the PNG ace has been one of Aston’s plus points in recent weeks.

The 22-year-old has started the last three games and Aston believes that Lo is setting the example for the younger generation.

“They are getting fitter and stronger. They are showing more understanding and a good example is Garry,” Aston added.

“He showed what a danger he is against Bradford and he is someone that can only get better.

“He maybe doesn’t understand the game to the level of some of the others at this stage, but give him a ball he will show you what he is capable of. We have seen his class in games; he has always had natural ability, that’s how he trains too.

“What we need to do now is improve his knowledge of the game because in my opinion he is going to be a revelation.”

The Eagles face Halifax at The Shay tomorrow, kick off 3pm.
