Young Sheffield dentist scoops regional award

A Sheffield dentist is all smiles after becoming regional Young Dentist of the Year.

Galer Farrer, a dental surgeon at the Springmount Practice in Matlock, scooped the Best Young Dentist for the North East at the prestigious Dentistry Awards 2015.

She graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2008 and has worked in hospital and community dental services, as well as in NHS and private general dental practice.

The 29-year-old, who loves working with nervous patients, has taught oral surgery at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital and also provides oral health education sessions at her son’s nursery.

Galer recently completed an 18-month implant course and is aiming to complete a Masters in Implantology.

She said: “I was so surprised but thrilled to have won the Best Young dentist award. I’m always striving to develop my skills and pride myself in giving something back to the local community.”

Springmount Dental has been fundraising during 2015 to celebrate its 20th anniversary year.

Galer completed the Sheffield Half Marathon and raised over £1,000 for Ashgate Hospice, Chesterfield, and the dental charity Dentaid.

The Bank Road practice also runs the one80dental centre for advanced dentistry in Totley, Sheffield.

Principal dentist and owner Nigel Rosenbaum said: “Galer is a real asset to the team here and we are absolutely delighted that she has been recognized with such a prestigious award.”

The Dentistry Awards recognise outstanding individuals and teams who are at the top of their profession and who are continually raising the standards within general dentistry. The 2015 awards were presented at a glittering ceremony in Leicester.
